So, should we or should we not fast in this current month of Shawal?

Of course you can do nafl siyam in Shawwal.  The post does not say you shouldn't.  But it's entirely up to every individual.  If you offer your nafl siyam earnestly any time of the year, Insh'Allah if Allah wills, He may decide to grant you additional rewards.  But if you have completed your Ramadan siyam earnestly and you don't fast in Shawwal, even then you are fine as you have completed your fard requirement as instructed by The Almighty.

No matter how hard we try we will never be able to perform our fard worship and fard duties perfectly.  Even if we perform Hajj, we may make some mistakes while performing it.  This is when Sunnah and nafl prayers come into use.  The journey starts with fard but doesn’t end there.  It continues in doing things that are not compulsory or voluntary. This is established in Hadith Qudsi which says  “My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him.”  Bukhari Hadith 25, 40 Hadith Qudsi.

Okay, in other words this means that Bukhari thinks or presumes that fard prayers are never performed perfectly and nafl & Sunnah adds support to it.  In some cases it may be correct but only Allah Almighty knows the real facts of every soul. The point here is, Bukhari has the right to his own opinion just like everyone else, but he should not commit forgeries, sometimes using the name of the Prophet (pbuh) and sometimes not even sparing for forge the name of Allah Almighty to promote his own personal opinions.  This habit of his is very inappropriate.  He should express his personal opinion in his own name as an opinion.

How Allah Almighty calculates our rewards on the Day of Judgement is up to Him.  We will keep trying our best and undoubtedly voluntary worship is a very positive approach.  But people should not go around putting their ideas in writing using the name of Allah and His final messenger.  Falsely using the name of the messenger is wrong enough, forging the name of Allah Almighty to construct human quotes is much too improper.

MV your opinion on guest Nighat's comment please, that we can't perform fard worship perfectly so sunnah/nafl helps.  Isn't it just as possible for people to make mistakes in sunnah or nafl worship also?

I agree completely.  It is just as possible for any of us to make unintentional mistakes in our sunnah or nafl worship as well.  That's why we maintain that the calculation of rewards is up to Allah Almighty only.  We need to make our utmost effort to focus as best as we can on our worship of Allah.   It is entirely up to HIM to what extent HE accepts our worship.
