It's worse than a prison .. it's a concentration camp.  Children as young as 10 or 11 are having to care for their younger siblings ages 2, 3 and 4 becoz many have lost both parents.  It's a very, very, very tearful situation there.

What is Salah al-Kusoof, its significance and method?  Does it have to do with eclipse of the moon?

It usually has to do with the eclipse of the sun, as far as I know, but can also be offered during eclipse of the moon.  Salat al Kusoof is 2-rakat nafl prayer usually offered in congregation.  With the recitation of Fatiha, the salah starts as soon as the eclipse takes place.  It is not obligatory.  But if it makes you happy, then it's fine to offer it.

Yes, it's from hadith.   99% of all practices not given in the Noble Quran are rooted in hadith in the name of "tradition" that have a huge authencity problem.  However, this one, which is about offering an additional prayer is fine, not because hadith says it, but offering additional prayer at any time is a positive thing if we have the time.  We can even decide on our own to offer nafl or additional prayer whenever we feel lik it. 

The hadith on salat al-kusoof is as follows:

Narrated by Aisha that "the Prophet (pbuh) finished his prayer then addressed the people and started by praising Allah then he said, The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah, and they do not become eclipsed for the death or the birth of anyone. If you see that, then call on Allah, perform salah, give charity."
