Total Quran Verses

Another question please, what is the total number of Quran verses confirmed?

Total number of Verses in the Noble Quran excluding “BismAllah ..”  is 6,236.  Including “BismAllah” the total number if Verses is 6,348.  Except Surah Taubah (Chapter 9), all of the 113 Surah of the Noble Quran begin with “BismAllah Ar Rehman Ar-Raheem” which must be taken as the starting Verse of every Surah (even though it is not numbered).  Only Surah Taubah does not begin with “BismAllah ..” for which you can look up the details in the link below.

Alhumdulilah, thank you.  After putting this question I thought of Surah Taubah and intended to put this question on why it doesn’t start with Bismillah Rehman Rahim, so I am glad you already gave me that link.

I recently retired and in my retired life trying my best to learn and devote all my time to Allah.  My working days before retirement busy and tiring that I could not devote the time I wanted to Allah.  Coming here in Muslim Villa is helping me to learn.

Is it necessary to count “BismAllah” as part of the total verses of every surah?

Yes it is necessary.  In V.15:87 the expression “Saban Minal Masani” translates as “seven of the oft repeated’ referring to the seven Quran Verses recited most often.  This points to Surah Fatiha (1st Chapter of the Noble Quran) which is recited in every rakah of every prayer.  Surah Fatiha makes up a total of 7 Verses including the count of “BismAllah Ar Rehman Ar Raheem.”    Thus, the Noble Quran counts “BismAllah ..” as the starting Verse of Surah Fatiha.  This is sufficient evidence that “BismAllah ..” is a part of every Surah that requires to be counted within the total number of Verses.


Surah Fatiha:

1.   BismAllah Ar Rehman Ar Raheem (1:1 Fatiha)
2.   Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds,  (1:2 Fatiha)
3.   The Beneficent, the Merciful.   (1:3  Fatiha)
4.   Master of the Day of Judgment,   (1:4  Fatiha)
5.   YOU (alone) we worship; YOU (alone) we ask for help.  (1:5 Fatiha)
6.   Show us the straight path,   (1:6  Fatiha)
7.   The path of those whom YOU have favored, not the (path) of those who earn Your anger nor of those who go astray.  (1:7  Fatiha)
