Donation and Syyed family

Salam.  For Zakat & Fitra before giving many donors said please make sure this should not be given to SYYED family. Syed families are from the roots of Prophet (S.A.W) family many believe.  Can you please explain is there any Hadith or anything else about it ?

Walaikum As Salam.    First off, we don’t meddle with Hadith issues nor do we accept its assertions as it’s too full of forgeries.   

Secondly, even if one is speaking from a personal perspective, I don’t understand the logic behind this concept. 

Syed as a name or family title, whatever you want to call it, can be taken by any one.  There has been absolutely NO evidence in any era of history that “Syeds” are of the Prophet’s (pbuh) lineage.  Secondly, even if someone proves they have Prophet’s (pbuh) lineage, that alone is not symbolic of righteousness unless the person has a firm iman and right conduct.

Thirdly, even if you accept the evidence-free story that all Syeds are from Prophet”s (pbuh) lineage, I also don’t understand why they shouldn’t be eligible to receiving charity or donation if they are financially hard up?

In conclusion, I would disregard this concept of not giving charity or donation to people with the name ‘Syed.’   Totally crazy idea.

I was readinf in a website called Orphans in Need which says I quote "Those with the name Syed are descendants of the Prophet (PBUH) and so, as per the Qur'an, cannot receive Zakat."

Sorry I missed out part of the quotation.  Here is the full quote "Those with the name Syed are descendants of the Prophet (PBUH) and so, as per the Qur'an, cannot receive Zakat. If a Syed is in difficulty, you are permitted to give them a gift, but you cannot do so in the name of Zakat."

Where in the Quran does Allah say that Syeds are descendents of the Prophet?  Where in the Quran does Allah say persons named Syed cannot receive Zakah regardless of their financial status?   Where in the Quran is the word "Syed" mentioned at all?  Please quote the Quran Verses where all this info is contained.
