Okay, now qasida burdah is supposed to be most popular in Muslim North Africa .. that is the Maghreb.  That means Algeria and Morocco?

Countries included in Maghreb are Libya, Algeria, Tunisia. Morocco and Mauritania.  Yes, burdah culture is popular here, but also in Egypt, Syria and parts of Lebanon.

Interesting read throughout the thread.  Qasida Burdah is basically a Sufi Muslim tradition.   

I had attended many Mawlid events while residing in Pakistan.  Consisted of reciting the biography of the Prophet (pbuh) in conversational language, at closing singing the 4 central lines of "Ya Nabi Salam Alaika" and then tea & snacks for attendees. 

Sister Heba's information on closing with the 3 Quranic Surah, dua for Prophet (pbuh) in own words and distribution of food sounds great.

O yes, burdah has 100% Sufi Muslim roots.  Al Busiri was from Sufi Muslim family.  However nowadays even Salafs observe that occasion, and that's why there are so many changes and interpolations in al-Busiri's original poem to suit the ideologies of different denominations of Muslims.

Shiia Muslims do appreciate the burdah as far as the that central line is concerned. But when it comes to the entire original lyrical poem of this qasida, it gets somewhat tricky for traditional Shiias because the detailed qasida consists of praises for certain other personalities as well whom traditional Shiias don't wish to compliment e.g. the first 3 righteous Caliphs. That is of course a very wrong attitude.  All 4 caliphs were righteous and it is undoubtedly a positive gesture to compliment them in a Halal way.  But nowadays with so many changes in the original qasida, and especially since the Salaf circles are also indulging in it, I won't be surprised if there are praises in qasida for the unknown so-called sahabas such as Abu Huraura, Abu Dharr etc.  I have heard that there are praises in various versions of qasida burdah for certain small-time personalities for whom the Shiias don't care.  Thus, though the Shiia Muslims fully support the central line of qasida burdah, they seldom hold the entire event as actively as the Sunni Muslims.

On the topic of Maghreb countries and looking at the map you posted, isn't Western Sahara also very much in this category?

It should be certainly as it’s located in the Maghreb region and they speak Arabic.  But the immoral state of modern Morocco has occupied more than 80% of Western Sahara because of which WS doesn’t have the status of an independent country any longer since 2020 ..
