Can a Muslim human marry a Jinn?

Salam to you. 

I know scholars have differing opinions on this.  Humans can’t see jinns as easily as they see us. So you may ask how can they choose each other as spouses?  However I have heard from many sources that jinns have the ability to live inside human bodies for various reasons, love being one of them.  In this case jinns talk through the person's mouth when you see humans speaking strangely.  In short, some jinns stay with some people because they love them, but humans often don’t even know about it.

Walaikum as Salam.     The details you have stated in the text of your post are aspects that belong much to the unseen.  There could be some truth in that.  But only Allah knows accurately to what extent.  We do know for sure that a bad or disbelieving jinn can have no control over a believing human who has complete faith in Allah.    In Verse 17:65 of Surah Al Isra, Allah Almighty tells Satan who is the most disobedient jinn of all,  “Indeed, My (faithful) bondmen - over them you have no power, and your Rab suffices as (their) guardian.”  (17:65).

What can be answered more decisively is your title question, ‘can a Muslim human marry a jinn?’  If the human is a Muslim (believer) and the jinn is also a Muslim (believer), then ethically there’s no reason why they can’t get married.  I mean male human getting married to female jinn or female human getting married to male jinn.  From what we know, if jinn want they can take human form.  There are Muslims and non-Muslims among jinn as well.  The Muslim jinn who are obedient to Allah can be termed as are our brothers and sisters in faith.  There is no given prohibition in the Quran for marriage between believing human and believing jinn.  So if the human/jinn love relationship is observed in a Halal manner with the intention of marriage, I don’t see any reason why it should be seen as a violation.   Of course I am sure this is rare, and personally I have never heard nor known of any human getting married to a jinn.  But there are lots of occurrences/interactions in this world between humans and jinn that are not known to most humans.

I read that a scholar named Ibn Nujaym was of the view that the marriage is unlawful between human and  jinn as they are of different worlds.   Does MV know about Ibn Nujaym ?   What’s your view on this ?

Yes I have heard of him.  Muhammad Ibn Nujaym, as far as I know, was a 16th century Egyptian jurist of Hanafi school.  I don’t have too many details about him.  His view on prohibition of marriage between human and jinn as you stated is not correct because humans and jinn belong to the same world, not to two different worlds.  Neither does the Quran mention such a prohibition.  There can certainly be a prohibition for believing human marrying a disbelieving jinn and vice-versa, the same way a believing human is not allowed to marry a disbelieving human.

Allah says in Surah Rahman verse 55:56  “In them shall be those (companions) who restrained their eyes (modest gaze); before them neither man nor jinn shall have touched them.”    Here Allah is stating about the chaste and modest companions of Jannah.  This verse shows both believing jinn and humans can have companionship of each other.  And only Allah knows the details.

There is another concept that jinn only live in deserted areas like lonely forests, lonely deserts, deserted suburban areas far from cities etc.  Is this true?   I thought jinns can come into people’s homes as well.

Presence of jinn can be anywhere in the world, not just deserted areas.  And yes certainly, they can enter peoples’ homes as well if they desire.

Jins would even steal things from people's houses and it has been advised to close doors in the name of Allah (by reciting Bismalah) to avoid such admittance.

Well yes, the bad or trouble making jinn can do such things after entering the homes of humans.  Keeping doors closed is effective to stop human intruders.  But I am not sure if it will help to keep away jinn.  Allah knows best.  However I am sure that reciting Quranic Verses regularly does discourage both bad jinn and the bad humans sneaking into peoples’ homes.

I completely disagree with that.  What can imams and shaikhs do, nothing, except performing some useless dramas.  You have to assist yourself with regular recitations of Quran Verses, offering salah and dua and dhikr.  All of this helps a lot.  But if you stop your salah and recitations even for a few days, the evil jinn can return.  If you feel you and your family aren't getting enough time to do as much Quranic recitations as required, then it’s best to change your residence.
