Lot's Wife

Assalam Walakum.
I'm just curious what were the deeds of Lot's wife which incurred the wrath of Allah? Is it that she supported and assisted homosexuality?

"We also sent Lot to his people. He said to them, ‘How can you commit this outrage with your eyes wide open? How can you lust after men instead of women? What fools you are!’ The only answer his people gave was to say, ‘Expel Lot’s followers from your town! These men mean to stay chaste!’ We saved him and his family– except for his wife: We made her stay behind– and We brought rain down on them. How dreadful that rain was for those who had been warned!" (27:48) Surah An-Naml

Walaikum as Salam.  Whether or not she actively supported the wrongdoers isn't clear. Only Allah knows that.  She might have supported them actively.  What we are sure is, she was not averse to the acts of the people who committed violations.  She found nothing wrong with their actions and didn't agree with the idea of discouraging or dissuading them. Additionally it's also possible that she was not a believer or a very weak believer by lip service only.

The changed books of Jews and Christians say Lot's wife was turned into a salt pillar for her disobedience 

As always, from the very sound of it, that’s nonsense and  clashes with Quranic information.   According altered bibles, the disobedience of Lot's wife was that she turned around to look back to see the wrongdoing people as she and her family fled.  The Noble Quran makes it clear that Lot’s wife didn’t even go with Lot.  She stayed behind with the disobedient folks, so the question of her turning around and looking back doesn’t even arise.

"And We rescued him and his household, except his wife, who was of those who stayed behind."  7:83 Al Araf.

"The Messengers) said: "O Lut! We are Messengers from your Rab! By no means shall they reach you! now travel with your family while yet a part of the night remains, and let not any of you look back: but your wife (will remain behind): To her will happen what happens to the people. Morning is their time appointed: Is not the morning nigh?"  11:81  Hud.


To “look back” or as in some translations “turn round” is an expression defining those who agree with transgressions and violations.  It’s not a literal expression of physically turning around and looking back at the destruction as long as one is a believer and with gratitude to Allah, thanking Allah for saving them from the destruction of the disobedient.
