November 01, 2023, 03:38:26 pm Zainab_M: Keep praying, praying a lot for Gaza. It's worse than a prison .. it's a concentration camp.  Children as young as 10 or 11 are having to care for their younger siblings ages 2, 3 and 4 becoz many have lost both parents.  It's a very, very, very tearful situation there.

October 20, 2023, 04:24:44 pm Zainab_M: Right sister Heba.  Gaza hospital bombing has the fingerprints of Israel all over it.  For Israel this is no big crime.  They have done this and much worse many times in the past and intend to do the same and worse many more times in near future.

Hadith or what?

Any Islamic reason for it?  Does Islam discourage from stepping out after Maghreb or sunset?  That’s what traditionalists are talking.  In that case we shouldn’t be attending any family dinners, not even tarawi in Ramadan as these also come after Maghrib.  Not to mention, a lot of air travel is after Maghrib.

Hadith might discourage, the Noble Quran does not.

Though I don't know of any specific Hadith saying this, I don't put it past the Hadith school to say such things.

All depends on one’s intentions and deeds.  If one is stepping out to commit Haram deeds or with Haram intentions, then it’s wrong to step out at any time .. morning, afternoon, night, all times.  Otherwise one can step out after Maghreb just as well as any other time.   Secondly, if there is any type of insecurity in the city, town or village where you reside and after dark the risk of criminal activities can be more, then yes, you should avoid stepping out at night unless urgent.  These are all matters of basic Quranic values and common sense.

Yeah, it comes from hadith.

Quote:
‘Ata’ related that he heard Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them both) say that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “When the darkness of the night envelops–or it becomes nightfall–withhold your children (from going outside). Verily, the jinn spread out at this time. Then, when part of the night has passed, let them go outside. And lock the doors whilst mentioning Allah’s name. Verily, the devil cannot open a locked door.” [Bukhari, Chapter of the Beginning of Creation] There are other hadiths with similar meanings included in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.
Unquote:

Traditionalists explain ‘Darkness of the night’ when the sun has disappeared and darkness spreads in the first part of the night.  The first part of the night is considered to be the period immediately after sunset, when darkness begins to fall and the sky transitions from twilight to full night.   The "second part of the night" generally refers to the period after midnight until approximately 2.00 at night when most people experience the majority of their REM sleep.  REM sleep stands for "Rapid Eye Movement" sleep, and it's a sleep stage where your eyes move rapidly behind closed eyelids, often accompanied by vivid dreaming.  Third part of the night is approximately from 3.00 at night until Fajr.

So, anyone can discern the fallacies of this forged hadith.  First off, it refers only to kids, that don’t let kids go out only during first half of the night because hadith presumes Jinn predate on first half of night.  After that you can allow your children to go out.  One of the most illogical and foolish hadith ever.  Jinn as a species are the creation Allah and they are around at all times, not just first half of the night.  Secondly, locking door and windows will prevent human thieves, robbers and murderers from getting in, NOT the Jinn.  Thirdly, during times of insecurity or for fear of being targeted by human criminals, the risk is highest outdoors during second and third parts of the night when the surroundings are most deserted.  But this crazy hadith thinks first half from sunset to midnight is most risky with the Jinn partying around.  Hadith forgeries are unforgivable.

Thoroughly sensible analysis, sisters.  Of course I know it but a lot of those folks out there don’t, some due to ignorance while others who are trying to learn and traditionalists prey on them for easy indoctrination.  Recently a cousin of mine who is a slight hadithist, was saying this to his two young kids.   I sat silently, but I had a hunch his talk sprouted from hadith.
