Surah Abasa v.15 does it refer to sahabahs?

80:13. On honoured leaves
80:14. Exalted, purified,
80:15. (Set down) by scribes
80:16. Noble and righteous.
Abasa 80:13-16.

Someone delivering a lecture was saying "scribes" in verse 80:15 means the sahabahs who wrote the Quran on leaves and leather skins as the Prophet (saaw) recited the revelations.  Your opinion please.

No, it does not mean the sahabahs at all.  It refers to the angels who were writing the Quran on the scrolls under the direct guidance and supervision of Allah prior to the Divine contents being revealed to the Prophet (pbuh) by arch angel, Jibreel.  If you read the original Arabic of Verse 80:16, the two words Allah mentions for describing these angels are "kirāmin bararatin" which mean "noble dutiful."  This implies that these angels are so virtuous and noble that they cannot commit the slightest of dishonesty in the trust bestowed on them by The Almighty of writing the Quran on scrolls as ordered by Him.  The honesty / integrity of those agels is impeccable.   It has nothing to do with the "sahabahs."
