A question on Surah An Naba verse 6 and 7

Have We not made the earth an expanse, 78:6
And the mountains as pegs? ( to anchor the earth)?  78:7

Abdel Haleem translates:

Did We not make the earth smooth  78:6
and make the mountains to keep it stable  78:7


My question is on Verse 78:7.   Do mountains really act as anchors to keep the earth stable?   Can the word “peg” be a substitute for stabilization?

Yes, for sure, mountains do have a very significant role in stabilizing the Earth's rotation and the Earth's crust. This has been proven to be true 100% according to all sources of seismic studies.   Anyone can check it for themselves.

Mountains act as gravitational forces or pegs that stabilize the Earth's rotation. This helps prevent catastrophic failures such as landslides, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.  Mountains also help to balance the Earth’s hum (aka noise) which is a continuous, low-frequency sound detectable with sensitive instruments.  This hum is generated by the interaction of ocean waves with the seafloor and the Earth's crust.  Mountains have deep roots that extend into the Earth's mantle (or Earth’s layer between the crust and outer core).  Mountains help stabilize the Earth's crust. Seismic studies have shown that most regions that are significantly elevated above sea level are compensated by weighty roots at depth. The crust is thicker underneath mountain ranges, and the taller the mountain, the deeper the roots go. The weight of mountains is supported by the upper layer of the Earth’s mantle.

Thus, mountains balance the Earth the same way wheels balance a moving object.  Mountains serve as gravitational pegs stabilizing the Earth’s Rotation.  Alhumdulilah.

The word “peg” can  certainly be used as a connotation for stabilization of a situation or phenomenon.

Peg= spike, pin, rivet, hook or nail.  All allude to stabilizers e.g. ‘fix or make fast with a peg or pegs.’
