Does the Quran refer to the custom of “baptism” ?

Salam everyone.  Does the Quran speak of the custom of “baptism” in Christians and Jews?

Walaykom as Salam.  Yes, thereis a critical and disapproving reference to it in Surah Al Baqrah, Verse 138.

(2:138)     صِبْغَةَ اللَّهِ ۖ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ مِنَ اللَّهِ صِبْغَةً ۖ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ عَابِدُونَ

“(We take our) color from Allah, and who is better than Allah at coloring. We are His worshippers.”  2:138  Al Baqrah.

The original Arabic for the word "color" in this Verse is صِبْغَةَ or ṣib'ghata

Before Christianity, it was a Jewish custom to give a bath to those who accepted Judaism. It meant to imply that all the sins of this person who was given a bath were washed away. This was traditionally interpreted as the person getting a ‘new colour of life.’ Same religious practice was later followed by the Christians and it was called "baptism," a religious ceremony  of immersing in water.  It is practiced not only with new Christian converts but also with all new born babies in Christian families. The Noble Quran rejects this useless custom which carries no practical truth and neither is it necessary nor is it a prerequisite for forgiveness in the Sight of Allah. If one really wants to get a “new color of life” then one should wholly submit to Allah and none else, and follow His Commandments and guidelines.

Sibghatallah is also a very fine Muslim name taken from this verse, "color of Allah" that the best color is the color of God. Meaning, the best religion is to follow the Commands and guidance of Allah and to submission to Him.
Very beautiful verse and very good response to the pointless custom of baptism.
